ANDREW W.K. ON TOUR IN CANADA
Andrew W.K. says:
“It gives me overwhelming joy to return to Canada for this crazy summer party tour! I’ve had some of the greatest nights of my life in this northern land, and I expect high-times for us all! I will be playing special spontaneous solo party music, and singing with you, together in arms, towards a memory of happiness and to create energy for having fun tomorrow. It really is such a pleasure to come to Canada. Now let’s PARTY!!!”
SHORT BIO:
Andrew W.K. exploded onto the music scene with the release of his 2001 album I Get Wet. Best known for his adventurous stage shows and die-hard performance attitude, Andrew W.K. has proven himself a talent and sustaining force in the entertainment world. He has released multiple albums, produced records for countless other artists, authored a book, started his own record label (Skyscraper Music Maker) and opened a successful NYC music and dance venue (Santos Party House), while also working as a new-age self-help motivational speaker. He lives in Manhattan.
CURRENT WORK:
- SOLO PIANO ALBUM:
Andrew is releasing first ever solo piano album, “55 CADILLAC”, on September 8th. The album is released on Andrew’s newly formed record label, Skyscraper Music Maker. The album is subtitled, “S.S.P.I. - Spontaneous Solo Piano Improvisations”. The music on the album showcases Andrew’s piano improvisations and spontaneous work. Close to the release date, Andrew is planning on performing special concerts with The Calder Quartet (a contemporary classical quartet). Photographs of Andrew’s prized 1955 Cadillac Fleetwood limousine features heavily into the album’s artwork.

- NEW T.V. SHOW:
Andrew W.K. will host Cartoon Network’s new heavy duty destruction and demolition competition show, “Destroy Build Destroy”. “Destroy Build Destroy” will premiere June 20th, as part of Cartoon Network’s new block of alternative live-action series. In Destroy Build Destroy, teams with the guidance and assistance of professionals, will use wrecking balls, human destroyers and real explosions to destroy something, rebuild it into something different and then destroy it again. Each week new teams face new challenges to build from the debris, with strategy, wits and teamwork determining which team’s creation out-performs the other—and whose hard work goes up in smoke. “Andrew W.K. is the perfect host for the high energy that Destroy Build Destroy brings to Cartoon Network. He embodies the fun, creativity and action that this show is about,” says Rob Swartz, vice president of original series for Cartoon Network. “I’ve never seen a television show like this one, and I get to be in the center of it all as host, coach, cheerleader and ring-leader,” said Andrew W.K. “Destroy Build Destroy incorporates imagination, competition and teamwork for a truly ground-breaking TV show. This is as good as it gets for a performer like me.”

- SPLIT RELEASE WITH NARDWUAR:
Andrew has long been a supporter of Canada’s very own, Nardwuar, and now the two have teamed up to release a split 7″! “It gives me great pleasure to announce my partnership with Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada’s The Evaporators, as we release a new split 7″ EP! It’s called, ‘A Wild Pear’, and features artwork by American cartoonist, Mitch Clem! I’m honored to be part of the this special musical moment. I’ve been a fan of Nardwuar since I first saw him on bootleg VHS copies of his Cable Access TV shows. Then I found out about The Evaporators, and I was even more blown away. I’ve recorded my own cover versions of two classic Canadian punk tunes: The Leather Uppers - ‘Don’t Sell Hot Dogs Tonight’, and Subhumans - ‘Oh Canaduh’. I love both of these songs and had an amazing time recording them. I’ve been a strong fan of the Leather Uppers since I first heard about their music from my friend Jim Magas, almost 14 years ago. Plus on the 7″, you can also get your own dose of The Evaporators, with these two songs: an original “The Bombs in My Pants” and also a cover “Oh Non” ( originally by Montreal 1960’s group Les Hou-Lops). I consider this release to be the result of a magical circle, one that started for me back in high school, while living in southeast Michigan. Having the opportunity to meet Nardwuar was a dream come true and the first time the circle connected. Getting to make this record with him is the circle coming together another time, and I’m very grateful. Out of respect for dreams coming true, I dedicate my contributions on this 7″ to Canada, Nardwuar, and my wife, Cherie Lily.” - Andrew W.K.

No Use For A Name, Only Crime and Pour Habit
On tour In Canada
Fat Canada Tour 2009
NO USE FOR A NAME are one of independent music’s most dominant and everlasting forces; and nothing could solidify their firm grip on the underground more than their upcoming 9th proper studio release, The Feel Good Record of the Year. The band recorded in Ft. Collins, CO at the Blasting Room with legendary producer Bill Stevenson (Descendents, Black Flag, Only Crime). This could very well be their best record to date, both in song quality and production value. The 14 song record is a perfect blend of all their previous albums and proves yet again the staying power of the band .Weather you are listening to No Use For A Name cd or watching them live they never disappoint.
Only Crime is a combination of 5 veterans of the punk/hardcore scene who have pooled their collective experience to create a truly refreshing musical statement. Fusing elements of heavy rock and roll with the furious energy of punk rock from the 1970’s & 80’s, Only Crime has also adopted the creative abandon pioneered by jazz’s seminal protagonists. The band’s sound is heavy without being the least bit “metal”, melodic without sounding “pop”, and experimental without treading into the arcane realm of “art” rock. While the members of Only Crime aren’t new, their music is like nothing you’ve heard before.
Only Crime was formed in 2002-2003 when vocalist Russ Rankin (Good Riddance) and guitarist Aaron Dalbec (Bane/Converge) realized they would have the time to pursue a band together; Soon Bill Stevenson (Descendents/ALL/Black Flag), who had produced projects for Russ and Zach separately, got wind of the project and, excited at the chance to play some drums and revisit a musical landscape he had helped pioneer, became the band’s drummer. The line up on this upcoming tour will be Russ Rankin – vocals, Aaron Dalbec – guitar, Matt Hoffman – guitar, Dan Kelly – bass and Luke Ray – drums.
Only Crime just demoed a handful of new songs and will be posting one of them online soon.
Pour Habit new to Fat Wreck Chords initially started by Steve and Chuck as a trio in 2005 in Compton, California, the band underwent a series of member changes and instrument swaps before landing on the perfect lineup of Chuck (vocals), Colin (drums), his brother Eric (guitar/vocals), Shaun (guitar) and Steve (bass/vocals)—and they haven’t looked back since. After gaining a local following performing with Authority Zero and Guttermouth and building an enthusiastic fan base in California, the group entered the studio in 2007 to record their debut full-length, Suiticide. “We barely had enough money for a week in the studio and that album is pretty much a live CD,” Colin explains, adding that his drum tracks were cut in one take. “It was a good learning experience and we’re proud of it.”
From there the band started playing even bigger shows with acts like Strung Out, the Adicts, the Expendables and Death By Stereo and before they knew it, they had sold more copies of Suiticide than they ever imagined they would. As luck would have it, Colin’s father was a studio musician and friend of Strung Out’s drummer Jordan Burns and eventually Colin convinced Strung Out to let Pour Habit open for them. Pour Habit’s impressive arrangements, infectious energy and mind-boggling musicianship made Burns an instant fan/cheerleader and he passed the band’s CD onto Fat Wreck Chords owner and NOFX front man Fat Mike who signed the band in 2009 after watching them play a handful of dates opening for his own band.
“Fat Mike told us that he was expecting to like two or three songs but he said it was a great album that he could release as it was before he put us in the studio,” Colin says sounding like he still can’t quite believe the band’s good fortune. “I’m still kind of overwhelmed by the whole thing.” Listening to Suiticide, it’s no surprise that Mike wanted to re-release the disc.
This year’s Fat Canada Tour promises to be high energy and have something for everyone…lot’s of bang for your buck!

Strike Anywhere
Remember the first punk band you fell in love with? Can you recall how liberating it was to sing along to words you believed in and what it was like to share a sense of community with complete strangers? Yes, before punk rock was co-opted by major labels, six-figure marketing campaigns, and corporate sponsors, all of us could probably name one band be it Black Flag or Operation Ivy who were responsible for getting us into this punk rock in the first place. For the past seven years, Strike Anywhere has kept that spirit alive for the latest generation of non-complacent youths and Dead FM is their masterpiece.
Lyrically, Strike Anywhere have become known for their intense social and political critiques, and while those themes are developed further and fiercer on Dead FM, the songs are grounded and strengthened by a biographical candor that is inclusive enough for those of us unfamiliar with Noam Chomsky to comprehend. “Punk saved my life”, Barnett explains. “But the metaphors on this disc are drawn out enough for everyone to relate to, because it doesn’t make sense for me to pontificate about my own problems if they’re not able to help or heal someone else with their issues in the world and the way they’ve been treated.”
But ultimately Strike Anywhere are not martyrs, nor do they claim to be. They’re simply trying to give back to a community that changed their lives and these days that means singing about their friendships and commitment to the punk subculture. “The catharsis is as real as it ever needed to be on Dead FM, and we really put our hearts into this record”, Barnett sums up. “If we can offer something, if anything, to the world that means the world to us, then we’ve already succeeded.”
Keep your eyes peeled for a new Strike Anywhere record this Fall.
In the meantime catch them live with Propagandhi this June if you can!

ISIS
New Record and Canadian dates
Isis- “Wavering Radiant” out NOW!
The band’s 5th album is available in a record store near you!
ISIS
The music of ISIS is a suitable metaphor for their twelve-year career: patient, meticulous, fraught with tension and gradually building towards an apex of seismic proportions. From the hypnotically bludgeoning down-tuned riffs of their early years to the gracefully sprawling passages on their pivotal sophomore album Oceanic and continuing through the intricate rhythmic textures and increased melody of 2006’s In The Absence of Truth, ISIS have successfully navigated the process of growing and evolving without disavowing their initial vision.
There is no consensus among ISIS’ cult-like fan base as to which album serves as the ultimate document of their art. Each record is a piece in the puzzle. Consequently, to brand their latest offering, Wavering Radiant, as the pinnacle of their achievements would be folly. Yet it’s a tempting proclamation. The factors that defined ISIS in the past are still present, but the band manipulates its tactics and strategies with a refined sense of purpose and a heightened knack for nuance. They’ve extrapolated on the polar nature of their music. It’s simultaneously their most challenging and accessible music to date. While Wavering Radiant is finely structured, dynamically varied, and melodically developed, it’s also unpredictable, expansive, and densely layered. Every ISIS endeavor is an active listening experience—requiring an aficionado’s ear for subtlety and a scholar’s grasp of the larger picture, but Wavering Radiant manages to provide instant gratification while also harnessing the slow burn of a classic, revealing the full extent of its mysteries only after repeated listens.
Rare is the record that finds the individual players as compelling as the sum of their parts, and ISIS has achieved just that. While the monolithic guitars of Aaron Turner and Michael Gallagher remain a primary fixture in the ISIS soundscape, the dueling instrumentalists continue to develop and expand upon their interplay. Together they evoke the emotional range of Wagner: brooding, triumphant, vengeful, and morose. Aaron Turner’s vocals are more prominent than ever. But in keeping with the egalitarian nature of their art, the vocals continue to serve as flourishes rather than a focal point. Clifford Meyer’s multi-instrumentation duties play a stronger role this time around as well. His atmospheric textures are still present, but he unlocks new horizons for the band with Fender Rhodes, electric organ, and the occasional psychedelic guitar lead. Jeff CSeaxide’s bass playing still covers a broad spectrum, from providing melodic counterpoints to the guitars to conjuring Peter Hook’s chorused bass leads. Wavering Radiant finally gives Caxide his due, allowing his various approaches to further accentuate the music’s shifting moods while anchoring the melodies into the formidable rhythm section. And here drummer Aaron Harris once again shows his expansive depth in technique and ability. From esoteric tabla passages to authoritative syncopated punctuations, Harris transcends the basic metronomic function of the drum set to imbue the percussive element of the band with a heightened sense of drama and power. Wavering Radiant finds every component of the ISIS armory coming into equal play.
Grandiose without being over-indulgent, epic without compromising focus, ISIS have resurrected the art of prioritizing the album over the individual songs. Wavering Radiant, though divided into seven pieces, is essentially one composition. It’s difficult to listen to the record without feeling the ghost of an era in rock music where musicians weren’t afraid to take chances, weren’t concerned with pandering to short attention spans, and weren’t compelled compact their material into a radio-friendly format. With producer Joe Barresi (Queens of the Stone Age, Melvins, Enslaved) behind the boards, the recording displays a sonic range and tonal depth in perfect step with the broad range of the band’s capabilities. This is an audiophile’s dream: rich in headphone candy, goose-bump inducing in its crescendos, majestic in its beauty, humbling in its devastating power. If radio still exists in 30 years, Wavering Radiant is the kind of record that obsessive DJs will play in its entirety during their graveyard shifts. But the huddled mass of ISIS enthusiasts are already celebrating its arrival.

I believe there's 4 types of people in the music business. Type one is great at their job but a total drag to be around, we'll call this one " the Alligator", cause you respect it's power and ability to survive but you wouldn't want to get in bed with it. Type two is complete shit at their job but a total blast to be around, we'll call this one "the Chimpanzee", cause it'd be fun to hang out with one but it's never gonna accomplish anything for you. Type three is complete shit at their job and about as fun to talk to as a rock, we'll call this one "the city rat" cause they're everywhere in the music biz. Type four is both great at their job and a complete pleasure to be around, we'll call this one "the polar bear", cause unfortunately they are almost extinct in the music biz. Melanie Kaye is a Polar Bear.
Tom gabel: Against Me!She has run the Fat Wreck Chords office in Canada for over ten years, and she would be running it for the next ten if the CD business was better. She has been a huge asset to this company in many ways and she will be greatly missed. I don't think that it is a coincidence that Fat Wreck Chords bands all do very well in Canada and that Melanie did promotion for them. All of our bands love working with her and many of them will continue to independently as will my band NOFX. Canada was the only country outside of the US to air the NOFX television program Backstage Passport and I believe the only reason this happened was because Melanie made it happen. She makes things happen. I have always trusted her to do a great job and she has never let me down. She can hold her alcohol pretty well to. That's all I got, sincerely
Fat Mike : Singer and Brains of NOFXShe has been truly great in every aspect of the word. Consistently great at her job, whether it be publicity, promotion or simply being a mediator for myself or my band. Great as a professional, on top of every detail, no matter how small. And over the years she has become a great friend of mine. Contrary to appearances, our work environment can be very high stress and physically demanding and it is always a good experience working with someone like Melanie, who is friendly, positive and calming. Melanie is full of enthusiasm for her work and has been inspirational in even the most monotonous circumstances. All of these traits are infectious and a pleasure to be near. I hope to work with Melanie again.
Joey Cape : Lag Wagon“From her days playing in bands to current gig work working for them, Melanie always comes through.”
-Ian Danzig : Publisher of Exclaim Magazine“ I have known and worked with Melanie for quite a while. She is a grade A publicist. The difference between her and other publicists is that she obviously really cares about the music that she chooses to work with. She invests her passion for music into each project. She covers so many parts of the publicity machine that she actually does way more then most publicists. No need to hold her hand or give her direction, she knows what she is doing. Oh, and she is a great person who everybody loves!”
-Greg Werckman : IPECAC RECORDINGS“ Melanie is very good at what she does, without being Hollywood/obnoxious about it. The only bummer is that she isn't based down here, where she could have the whole States wired the way she has Canada. ”
Jello Biafra“ Working with Melanie Kaye has been one of the highlights of our 8 year career! Her enthusiasm and great vibe are contagious. She knows EVERYONE and has the best contacts..and everyone who knows her loves her as much as we do. She is full of creative ideas and makes doing great PR look effortless and fun, even though we know it's not!! WE LUV MELANIE!!!!”
-Spero : Northern State“ Melanie is fucking awesome and I trust her like my own mother.”
-Hugo Mudie :The Sainte Catherines“ Melanie is someone that we wish we had doing publicity for our band all over the world because she does such an excellent job for us each and every time we come to Canada. She's always been really excited and motivated about our band and it always shows. Always open to and looking for creative ways to help push our band forward. What more could we ask for. Melanie kicks ass !!! ”
-Jordan Burns : Strung Out“ Me the struggling musician, Melanie the Promoter/Manager/Publicist. I have never had a better professional and personal experience.”
-Dave Gregg : D.O.A. 79-87 /Groovaholics 85- /Real Mckenzies-05-“ She is a someone who knows the business and the personal side of the art better than anyone that I have ever dealt with. She will take you to the top and at the same time take the music to heart and feel it! The hands on approach that Melanie provides is like no other that I have experienced. She is someone who truly understands the way to promote good music through her peers in the media outlets in a positive and interactive way.”
-Chuck Robertson : Mad Caddies“ is one of few people in the industry that is bullshit free, those folks are hard to find these days.”
-Mugison“ to do publicity for Nuttsactor 5 and Fishbone, at the suggestion of NoFX front man and Fat Wreck Chords owner, Fat Mike. He had nothing but great things to say about her and my personal experience was a pleasure for sure. She was effective in every way, helpful beyond the call of duty and in general, Melanie is a wonderful person to get to know. I look forward to working with her again in the near future. ”
-Norwood Fisher/Fishbone: Founding Member/Bassist /Head Nutt In Charge: Nuttsactor 5 Multimedia/Inna Nuttshell Reekordingz“ on amazing projects since the beginning of 123PUNK, so for almost 10 years now! Without a doubt, some of the best ideas, interviews and adventures we have had on the show have come from her. It is always a pleasure to work with someone who is able to combine so naturally an easy going personality and a great sense of professionalism! ”
-Rej Laplanche : VJ MusiquePlusThat's why her promotions and publicity are in sync with my club, my magazine and my fantasies.
